ICC Cricket World CUP 2011 - Second Quarter Final (India vs Australia)

INDIA WON THE MATCH BY 5 WICKETS

India win by 5 wickets, to meet Pakistan in semi-final

Sachin Tendulkar missed out on his 100th international ton, but scored a well-compiled half-century and also accomplished a milestone of 18, 000 ODI runs to help India build their chase of 261 on a positive note in their World Cup quarter-final match against Australia at Ahmedabad.

The maestro gave India a rollicking start adding 44 runs with Virender Sehwag in six overs before the former was caught at the short-midwicket for 15.

The exit of Sehwag didn’t allow the Australian bowlers to get on top, as Tendulkar kept the runs flowing and brought up his 94th ODI half-century.

It was, however, Sehwag who made the right noises early on, carving Lee to the cover boundary. Sehwag survived a close call off the last ball of the first over when umpire Marais Erasmus negated a caught behind appeal. Australia appealed for a review which proved to be inconclusive.

Tendulkar opened his account banging a superb four towards the point boundary off Shaun Tait, and followed it up with another, slashing a wide delivery towards third-man.

Earlier, Australia set India a target of 261 for victory with skipper Ricky Ponting slamming his 30th one-day international century. Brad Haddin scored a well made 53 off 62 balls. Zaheer Khan, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuvraj Singh took three wickets each.

Brief Scores: Australia 260 for 6 in 50 overs (Ricky Ponting 104, Brad Haddin 53, David Hussey 38*; Zaheer Khan 2 for 53, Yuvraj Singh 2 for 44, Ravichandran Ashwin 2 for 52) vs India 123 for 2 in 25 overs (Sachin Tendulkar 53, Gautam Gambhir 31*; Shane Watson 1 for 23, Shaun Tait 1 for 33).

SACHIN TENDULKAR IS ALSO OUT. NOW INDIA ARE 96/2 IN 18.4 OVERS.

In the First Quarter Final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Pakistan has easily won the match against West Indies to reach in the Semi Final on March 23, 2011. Now the Second Quarter Final is to be played between India and Australia. This is also taken as Mini Final Match. After wins over lesser-known opposition, Australia were faced with their biggest World Cup test against Pakistan in their last group match. With both teams having booked the quarter-final berth, the fight was all about being No.1 in the group. Electing to bat first, Australia were rocked by a devastating bowling from the Pak bowlers. Pacemen Umar Gul and Abdul Razzaq ran through the batting line-up and folded the defending champions for 176 in 46.4 overs. This was also Australia's sixth lowest World Cup total and was never enough for a determined Pakistan team. Afridi's men though wobbled a bit before getting the target in 41 overs. The important win ended Australia's unbeaten 34-match World Cup run and Pakistan captured top spot in Group A. They will face West Indies in the first quarter-final of the 2011 World Cup...

There was a choice to make Australia or West Indies and India chose the former. In their final Group B clash, India were to take on West Indies in Chennai. After a loud cry from every corner of India, Dhoni included off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin while Suresh Raina also got a game here. West Indies were without Chris Gayle and Kemar Roach. Batting first, India were bowled out for 268 runs with Yuvraj Singh scoring his maiden World Cup century. Again, India lost their last six batsmen for just 36 runs. Ravi Rampaul, who came in place of Roach, took a career-best five for 51 runs. Chasing 269, Windies batsmen got off to a good start but Ashwin struck in the 7th over and it was almost a downhill from there for the Caribbean giants. India won the match by 80 runs to set up a mouth-watering clash against Australia at Motera on Thursday. So what do you think?
