ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - Points Table

March 19, 2011 Today's matches are being played between Bangladesh v/s South Africa and Australia v/s Pakistan. The match played between Bangladesh and South Africa is a important match for the Bangladesh point of view. If they WIN this match then they can qualify for the quarter finals for the first time in the ICC Cricket World Cup history.
Bangladesh bowlers hit back after South Africa openers raised a 98-run opening stand in their final World Cup Group B league match at the Shere-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla looked well set to put up a century opening stand but Bangladesh effected the much needed breakthrough when spinner Mahmudullah had the South African captain stumped by Mushfiqur Rahim for a well-compiled 45.

Amla arrived at his 14th one-day international half-century in the same over when he nudged Mahmudullah to the mid-wicket region for a single.

Bangla Tigers had more joy when Amla played on to left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak for 51. Jacques Kallis and Jean-Paul Duminy are at the crease.

Earlier, Smith and Amla feasted on some wayward bowling dished out by Shafiul Islam and Rubel Hossain. The Bangladesh bowling duo were either guilty of bowling short or drifting on to the pads and the Smith-Amla pair took full toll of it.

It was Amla who silenced the boisterous Mirpur crowd when he clunked Shafiul between point and cover in the first over. He followed it up a classical drive – coming forward and caressing it through the covers off Rubel.

Smith, on the other hand, hit the straps straightway – a flick to the fine-leg boundary got him going but he was lucky to survive a lbw appeal off the next ball.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan brought in left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak into the attack after Shafiul and Rubel leaked 39 runs in their first five overs.

Brief Scores: South Africa 117 for 2 in 25 overs (Hashim Amla 51, Graeme Smith 45; Mahmudullah 1 for 11, Abdur Razzak 1 for 25) vs Bangladesh.
