ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - Final Match (India vs Sri Lanka)

INDIA HAS WON THE ICC WORLD CUP 2011 FINAL MATCH BY 6 WICKET.

IT IS ALSO A HISTORY THAT ANY ASIAN COUNTRY HAS WON THE WORLD CUP TWO TIMES.

The wait is finally over, the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai  is ready to witness the thrilling ICC World Cup 2011 final between Sri Lanka and India on Saturday, 2 April. After one and a half months of hard work, the final goal is just one step away for these two sides. All eyes are glued to this epic encounter, as the excitement has reached its maximum across the World.

With a capacity of 45,000, the Wankhede Stadium is one of the best venues in India. Sachin Tendulkar is the highest run-scorer at the venue with his 437 runs in 10 matches and will be looking for his 100th international ton in front of his home crowd. The cricket pundits consider this match as the best opportunity for the Master Blaster to reach this mile-stone.
SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) 2011

The two teams have played against each other in a couple One Day Internationals at Wankhede Stadium and each team has one victory to their credit. Moreover, the Sri Lankan Lions have defeated New Zealand in their group match at the same venue.
With a batting-friendly wicket at the venue, the spectators will see an entertaining show on Saturday and a total of 270-280 is likely to be put up by team batting first. Sri Lanka and India have met each other in 128 ODI’s since 1979 and the Men in Blue lead by 67-50. In the World Cup head-to-head contest, Sri Lanka has thrashed India in four out of six matches.
APPLICATION FORM FOR B.Ed. (Distance Education) Session 2011-2013
Tendulkar is the highest run-scorer in the ODI games played between the two sides, as he needs just 35 runs to complete his 3000 mark against Sri Lanka. Kumar Sangakkara, on the other hand, is just 54 short of his 2000 runs against India. India's total of 414 in an ODI match at Rajkot in 2009, is the highest score put up in any ODI game between the two Asian giants and interestingly India won that game by just three runs.

DLF IPL 2011 Schedule - Teams, Venue and Time

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the only wicket-keeper Captain in the World who has led his side in more than 100 ODIs. Dhoni needs 42 runs to complete his 6000 ODI runs while Gautam Gambhir is 24 runs short of his 4000 mark in ODI cricket. Another innings of 81 runs from Virat Kohli’s bat will enable him to reach his 2000 mark in ODI cricket. Zaheer Khan, India's most successful bowler in the tournament with 19 scalps, is the second Indian highest wicket-taker in World Cup tournaments with 42 dismissals after Javagal Srinath with 44 wickets.

Tillakaratne Dilshan is leading the chart of highest run-scorers in the tournament with his 467 runs followed by Tendulkar’s 464. The highest Sri Lankan wicket-taker against India with his 74 dismissals, Muttiah Muralitharan will play the last match of his career. Furthermore, Tendulkar will participate in his last World Cup match and interestingly, both players are Master of the Game, as Tendulkar is the highest run-scorer in ODIs with 18093 runs and Muralitharan is the highest wicket-taker in ODIs with 534 scalps. It will definitely be a farewell to cherish.

DDA Flats DRAW

The Indian team is playing this game with a tag of favourites due to their home advantage whereas the Sri Lankan Lions are looking to not repeat the history of the 2007 World Cup final where they lost to Australia. Both teams are evenly matched, but Sri Lanka has a slight edge over India in the bowling department. No prediction, anyone can win this game, however, the team with stronger nerves will have better chances in the all-important final clash of the ICC World Cup 2011.

Sri Lanka has WON the Toss and Elected to Bat First.

Gambhir holds firm for India, Dhoni is in

Tillakaratne Dilshan broke the 83-run fourth-wicket stand between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli when he had Kohli caught and bowled for 35.

Dilshan brought an end to a partnership that threatened to take the game away from Sri Lanka as the men in blue move forward in pursuit of 275 for World Cup glory.

This was after Gautam Gambhir rustled up a determined 25th one-day international half-century,  bringing up his fifty with a single off Muttiah Muralitharan off 56 balls, studded with six hits to the fence.

Gambhir is joined by captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni at the wicket.

Gambhir and Kohli repaired the Indian innings after Lasith Malinga dislodged Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar early to put Sri Lanka in a strong position.

The pair did not take any undue risks, and kept the scoreboard ticking over with some sensible batting - raising a half-century stand - a much required one for India after the early slump.

Gambhir launched his innings on a confident note, whipping Malinga to the square-leg boundary. He twice stepped out to Thisara Perera and clobbered him for two boundaries to give impetus to the innings.

Kohli took his time to get his eye in and gave the Wankhede crowd something to rejoice about when he flicked one to the on-side for a morale-boosting boundary.

Earlier, Malinga dealt a big blow in the first over when he pinned Virender Sehwag lbw for a duck.

The Sri Lankan speed merchant then claimed the prized wicket of Sachin Tendulkar to put the men in blue in a spot of bother. Tendulkar pushed at an away going delivery and was pouched by wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara for 18.

The maestro promised much, middling the ball from ball one. He picked two boundaries of Nuwan Kulasekera in the fourth over – a straight drive was a treat and he followed it up with a scorching cut past the point.

Earlier, Sri Lanka rode on a fighting unbeaten century by Mahela Jayawardene to post a score of 274 for 6 in its allotted 50 overs.

Brief Scores: Sri Lanka 274 for 6 (Mahela Jayawardene 103*, Kumar Sangakkara 48, Tillakaratne Dilshan 33, Nuwan Kulasekara 32; Yuvraj Singh 2 for 49, Zaheer Khan 2 for 60) vs India 124 for 3 in 25 overs (Gautam Gambhir 60*, Virat Kohli 35; Lasith Malinga 2 for 11).

ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - 1st Semi Final (Sril Lanka vs New Zeland)

Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara did not allow the Kiwis to gain upper hand after Upul Tharanga’s early dismissal, and consolidated Sri Lankan reply to New Zealand’s target of 218 with their unbeaten 76–run stand for the third wicket.

Tim Southee gave the Kiwis an early breakthrough, removing Tharanga, who, coming off a century against England, provided Sri Lanka a brisk start hitting a quick fire 30, studded with four boundaries and a six. It needed a piece of brilliance from Jesse Ryder to bring an end to Tharanga’s innings. Ryder, stationed at point, flew in the air to his left to pull off a superb catch.

Enter your EMAIL address on the TOP of this site for Free Jobs Alers.

Tharanga set the tempo early on, clobbering a six off the third ball of Nathan McCullum’s first over, and then belted Southee for two boundaries in the next over.

After Tharanga’s dismissal, New Zealand tried building pressure on Sri Lanka with tight bowling and fielding, but Dilshan shrugged it off by hitting two boundaries off Southee.

Earlier, New Zealand were bowled out for 217 in 48.5 overs with Scott Styris scoring his 28th one-day international half-century. Muttiah Muralitharan, playing his last one-day international match in Sri Lanka, bowed out on a memorable note bagging the wicket of Styris off the last ball of his spell. Lasith Malinga and Ajantha Mendis took three wickets each.

Brief Scores:  New Zealand 217 all out in 48.5 overs (Scott Styris 57, Martin Guptill 39, Ross Taylor 36; Ajantha Mendis 3 for 35, Lasith Malinga 3 for 55, Muttiah Muralitharan 2 for 42) vs Sri Lanka 116 for 1 in 25 overs (Tillakaratne Dilshan 46*, Kumar Sangakkara 34*; Tim Southee 1 for 27).

Sri Lanka Won the Match by 5 Wickets to reach in the Final

The breif history of the match is as under :-

Sri Lanka reached the World Cup final with a five-wicket win against New Zealand on Tuesday as veteran off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan said goodbye to his home crowd.

Sri Lanka, set a modest 218 to win, wobbled in the middle before reaching their target in 47.5 overs with Tillakaratne Dilshan (73) and skipper Kumar Sangakkara (54) setting the foundation at a packed R Premadasa stadium.

Muralitharan took his 534th wicket off his last ball on home soil as New Zealand were bowled out for a below-par score of 217 in 48.5 overs.

Muralitharan, who last year retired from Tests after finishing as the highest wicket-taker with 800, now aims to win his second title -- after being part of the 1996 Cup winning squad -- in Saturday's final in Mumbai.

Sri Lanka, cruising along at 160-1, lost four wickets in the space of 25 runs to raise fears of an unlikely defeat before Thilan Samaraweera (23 not out) and Angelo Mathews (14 not out) guided them home with an unbroken 35-run stand.

The victory took Sri Lanka into their second successive World Cup final, after finishing runners-up to Australia in 2007, as a capacity 35,000 celebrated with firecrackers.

Sri Lanka play the winners of Wednesday's semifinal between India and Pakistan in Mohali.

New Zealand, who for the sixth time failed in a World Cup semi-final, seemed to be succumbing like England did during their 10-wicket quarterfinal defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka, but they staged a brave rearguard action.

It was 34-year-old Dilshan who was once again in rampaging mood, taking the co-hosts to 40 by the eighth over in the company of Upul Tharanga who fell after scoring a 31-ball 30 with four boundaries and a six.

Dilshan then found an equally aggressive and in-form partner in captain Sangakkara as they added 120 for the second wicket, before Dilshan played straight into the hands of Jesse Ryder off Tim Southee.

Dilshan hit 10 boundaries and a six during his 93-ball knock.

Sri Lanka then lost Mahela Jayawardene (one) and Sangakkara in the space of eight runs and then Chamara Silva (13) before the team held their nerve.

Dilshan also became the top run-getter of the tournament with 467.

It was Ajantha Mendis (3-35) and Lasith Malinga (3-55), along with Muralitharan (2-42), who kept New Zealand under control after Daniel Vettori won the toss and opted to bat.

Scott Styris, who top scored with 57, added 77 for the fourth wicket with Ross Taylor (36) but the Sri Lankan bowlers never allowed them to run away with a big total, dismissing the Kiwis in 48.5 overs.

Styris and Kane Williamson (22) added 42 in the batting powerplay but New Zealand lost their last seven wickets for just 56 runs.

Sri Lanka once again dismissed hard-hitting Brendon McCullum through a spinner when left-armer Rangana Herath bowled him in the eighth over for 13.

Martin Guptill (39) and Jesse Ryder (19) took the total to 69 before Muralitharan had the big left-hander caught off a quickish delivery.

Soon it became 84-3 when Malinga bowled Guptill with a ferocious yorker after the opener had hit three boundaries off 65 balls.

Styris hit five boundaries during his 77-ball knock.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - 2nd Semi Final (India vs Pakistan)

India romp into World Cup final

India has won the Second Semi Final by 29 runs.

India marched into the World Cup final for the first time on home turf, hammering Pakistan by 29 runs in the semifinal match at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. Pakistan were all out for 231 in 49.5 overs.

There are no match tickets available. There are no hotel rooms vacant for the thousands flocking to Chandigarh from all over the world. The premiers of both India and Pakistan will be there to watch their men contest the second semi-finals of the World Cup. Add to those certainties one other: the Mohali pitch is bound to be batsmen-friendly. If sources are to be believed, then the fast bowlers will be more effective than spinners. "It is a good batting wicket. I don't think it will turn much," a Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) official said.

Enter your EMAIL address on the TOP of this site for Free Jobs Alers.

History suggests that captains prefer to bat first on calling the coin right and both MS Dhoni and Shahid Afridi will do well to follow convention. It is better to bat first because the wicket tends to lose pace as the match goes on. But if there is heavy dew things could change. "A 280-plus total would be really difficult to chase," the source said. Over the last five years, in the nine matches played at the ground the 300-run mark has been breached only twice. Incidentally, on the first occasion, Pakistan successfully chased India's 321 in a day-night game, with Younis Khan's 117 overshadowing Sachin Tendulkar's 99.

SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) 2011

In the past five years, seven out of the nine matches have been won by the side batting first. Also, there were seven day-night matches with five won by the side batting first and only two by the chasing side. Wednesday's semi-final would be the first match to be played under lights since November 2009 in Mohali.

Of the 137 wickets taken in those nine matches, fast bowlers accounted for 105, while the spinners claimed just 29. Even though the seamers have predominantly controlled affairs here, slow bowlers like Harbhajan Singh, who relies on bounce, have always got good purchase from the Mohali pitch. At the same time the hard clay in the pitch tends to make the ball skid rather than spin, so a spinner like Afridi would do well to push the ball rather than spin it.

Another talking point in the build-up to the match has been the dew. Over the last few days there has been heavy dew with the outfield being really wet till 10 pm. The curator will be taking measures like not watering the ground two days before the match and cutting the outfield really low but it would be difficult to eliminate the dew entirely. An essential factor for the dew to not spoil the evening would be the presence of the wind during the first half of the day. If it is windy during the day the dew will not be heavy, otherwise it will play affect team strategies.

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Gilani will attend the semi-final at Mohali

Pakistan prime minister Yousuf Gilani has accepted the invitation of his Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh, to attend the World Cup semi-final between India and Pakistan in Mohali on March 30. Relations between the two countries took a turn for the worse in the immediate aftermath of the Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008, and the cricket teams of the two countries haven't played each other on home soil since. Analysts say the Indian prime minister's latest gesture will help to break the diplomatic deadlock.

"It was decided in response to the Indian Prime Minister's invitation that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will visit India to witness the semi-final cricket match," presidential spokesman Faharullah Babar said on Sunday in Islamabad.

DDA Flats Draw Between 15th and 20th April 2011

Cricket has been used as an instrument of diplomacy between India and Pakistan in the past. In 1987, during an India-Pakistan Test in Jaipur, the then president of Pakistan Zia-ul-Haq paid a visit to the Sawai Mansingh Stadium and met Rajiv Gandhi, India's prime minister. Then, in 2004, India toured Pakistan for a full series for the first time in 15 years as the governments of the two countries aimed at improving relations.

The build-up to the upcoming semi-final in Mohali has been massive. Tickets were sold out well in advance, hotels within a 25 km radius of the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium have no rooms available and almost 6,500 visas are expected to be issued for fans travelling from Pakistan. India and Pakistan have played each other on four occasions in World Cups, with India winning each time.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - Quarter Final Results

CURRENT MATCH POSITION

Sachin Tendulkar’s 95th one-day international half-century formed the fulcrum around which the Indian innings revolved in their World Cup semi-final match against Pakistan at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali.

The maestro held the innings together with a responsible knock, which featured two close calls. He survived a lbw verdict in the 11th over, bowled by Saeed Ajmal - umpire Ian Gould upheld the appeal only to be negated through the review route. What’s more, he survived a stumping chance off the next ball.

Tendulkar reached the milestone in style, thumping a flighted Shahid Afridi delivery to the cover boundary.

His fifty came after Mohammad Hafeez halted India’s progress with the wicket of Gautam Gambhir for 27 in their World Cup semifinal match against Pakistan at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali.

Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir consolidated the Indian innings, raising 68 runs for the second wicket after the exit of Virender Sehwag to take their side past the hundred run mark.

Tendulkar was slow off the blocks as compared to the rampaging Sehwag but the maestro soon hit the straps – showing a liking for the off-side – a sweetly-timed boundary off Wahab Riaz was a treat.

Earlier, Virender Sehwag led a whirlwind Indian start before he fell to Riaz for 38. The right-hander made the right noises early on, caressing Umar Gul to the cover boundary in the first over.

Sehwag, who has gone off the boil somewhat after his mammoth 175 in their opening game against Bangladesh in Mirpur, picked up Gul for special punishment, clobbering him for five boundaries in the third over.

He handed out the Pakistan pace spearhead some pasting, collecting two more fours in his third over to give just the kind of early start captain Dhoni would have hoped for.

Pakistan resorted to all seam opening bowling attack - Umar Gul and Abdul Razzaq - a change Shahid Afridi opted for after preferring the pace-spin combo of Gul and Mohammad Hafeez in their quarter-final tie against West Indies.

Brief Scores: India 141 for 2 in 25 overs (Sachin Tendulkar 60*, Virat Kohli 9*, Virender Sehwag 38, Gautam Gambhir 27 *; Wahab Riaz 1 for 13, Mohammad Hafeez 1 for 14) vs Pakistan.

SACHIN TENDULKAR IS ALSO OUT AT 85. NOW THE SCORE IS 188 FOR THE LOSS OF 5 WICKETS.
